Protect Your Energy🧘🔋✨

Being tapped into our energy and the energy of those around us can be beneficial. If you are someone who is sensitive to the emotions of those around you or someone who is easily influenced by the energies and opinions of others, this blogpost may be helpful. If you are an empath or highly sensitive person, soaking up negative energy of those around you can leave you feeling drained and exhausted. If someone or something is mentally draining you, you are going to feel terrible. Protecting your energy is important for your mental and physical health and determines your overall happiness. 🧘

Below are some ways you can protect your emotional energy and inner peace

  • Tune into how you are feeling
  • Trust in yourself
  • Be less reactive, or non-reactive
  • Learn to say No to people who drain you. Do you often say “yes” to things you don’t feel like doing, just to be polite, or because you feel like you have to?
  • Please yourself before pleasing others, your needs are important as anybody else’s. Being a people-pleaser can take a toll on your wellbeing
  • Set healthy boundaries and establish healthy relationships
  • Be aware of who or what changes your energy.
  • Let go of things you cannot control
  • Repeat positive affirmations
  • Avoid gossiping
  • Avoid comparing yourself to others
  • Speak kindly to yourself and to others
  • Practice Meditation
  • Spend time in nature
  • Spend some time alone every now and then
  • Use crystals
  • Use essential oils
  • Visualise a bubble of protection around you

It is no secret that toxic people are skilled at draining the life out of you. Cutting energy vampires out of your life or consciously avoiding these leeches will cause a drastic improvement in your psychological wellbeing, happiness and quality of life. Nobody is obliged to stay in a toxic environment or be around these types of people.

🤫🤭😏🤡🤥💀🥀🌾

Personality traits:

  • Manipulators
  • Egotistical
  • Compulsive liars
  • Gossipers
  • Attention-Seeking
  • One-Uppers
  • Lack empathy
  • (Pathological) Jealousy
  • Complainers/Whiners

Maybe you have some of these traits or can identify these traits in others? Identifying these types of people and practicing self-care is key. 🙂🗝️💆👌

Orange Boo Smoothie Recipe🍊👻

The frozen banana is the genius part of this recipe. It adds a brilliant creamy texture to the smoothie without having an overpowering taste of banana. The combination of vanilla and orange is reminiscent of the iconic ice pop the ‘Super Split’. To really amp up the flavour the orange zest or orange blossom are great in this Halloween smoothie. The only thing you will need is some food colouring to really boost the flavour and have it looking that vibrant spooky orange colour. This smooth, creamy, orange smoothie is an unusual twist on a smoothie but one you are sure to love.

ingredients

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 250 mls orange juice
  • 250g pot of vanilla yogurt  / orange yogurt
  • 1 tsp orange blossom / zest half orange
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • drop of yellow and orange food colouring
  • Optional: 1 orange peeled and chopped up

method

  • Freeze the banana for a few hours before you need it. Weigh out the ingredients and pop them in the blender. Blitz, pour and serve.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie Recipe🍫🥜

This smoothie was quite thick so I would recommend adding more than 300ml milk. I like the combination of peanut butter, banana and cocoa powder and this is a smoothie I would make again.

ingredients

  • 2 bananas
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 300ml-400ml milk
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp porridge oats
  • 1 tbsp flax seeds
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds

method

  • Add the bananas, cocoa powder, oats, seeds, peanut butter and 300ml milk and blend for at least 30 seconds, until completely smooth. If it is is too thick, add some more milk and blend again. Pour into two glasses and serve with a straw.

My skincare routine🌺

Natural oils build up on your skin everyday. It is important to have a good skincare routine and everyone should take care of their skin, regardless of their age or gender.

Every morning, I clean my face with a damp facecloth and warm water, followed by moisturiser. My favourite brand of skincare products are No7. They have a great range of skincare creams and lotions and are good quality.

In the evening, I use cleansing lotion to remove any makeup and to clean my face. I apply cleansing lotion to cotton pads. Face cleansing should be done gently and not too harshly. After using cleansing lotion, I use a warm facecloth all over my face. The general rule of cleaning your face is to cleanse, tone, moisturise. I personally do not think this is necessary every time you clean your face. Using too many products or creams on your face can cause it to become very oily or greasy, causing spots.

I like to use a facemask once a week. Facemasks are applied for 10-15 minutes and help to clean pores. Facemasks come in different scents and it is recommended not to use a strong-smelling facemask if you have sensitive skin. There are different types of facemasks, some are creams and some are a sheet you place on your face while lying down. I personally prefer the cream types.

Taking care of the skin on your body as well as your face is necessary. Apply a good moisturiser all over your body regularly. Skin gets particularly dry during winter months. When shaving your legs or other bodyparts, you should moisturise after to prevent skin drying out. Non-scented moisturisers are recommended for sensitive skin. If your skin is sensitive, it means it is more prone to rashes or irritation.

Some of my favourite products include No7 Early Defence Night Cream, L’Oreal Skin Expert Pure Clay Glow Mask, Lush Eau Roma Toner Water.

Yoga and meditation🧘

I have recently started doing yoga and meditating more often. I was secretary of the yoga society at University this year, where I met lots of lovely likeminded people and helped organise events such as a morning swimrise, Tea for Thought, Cacao Ceremony and Mandala workshop. We often had food delivered from local vegetarian restaurants too.

Anybody can do yoga. Yoga is very beneficial, particularly if you’re an emotional sponge like me. There are lots of yoga channels with trained instructors on youtube. In todays world, we are swayed by other peoples opinions, beliefs and values. Yoga aligns you with your soul, inner being, true purpose and core values. Yoga connects you with you. Your ‘true self’. It is awakening, replenishing and reviving.

It helps to have a good yoga mat, one of which is on my shopping list. Things that may help you to relax are essential oils, candles and yoga music (lots on spotify) (be careful not to burn the house down). You can do yoga or meditation for as long as you want. It can be ten minutes, half an hour, or longer. You can do yoga or meditate alone, or you can do it with others, although this may be distracting and you may not feel the full benefits. Some people do yoga or meditate every day. If you only have time to do yoga once a week it is still beneficial.

Love yourself💖

Everyone experiences insecurities and self-esteem issues at some stage of their life. As I grow older, I am learning to love who I am, recognise my self worth and recognise and appreciate my good qualities. What’s not to love about Jo <333🥰🥰🥰

Whether you have been bullied, had body image issues, didn’t have many friends, had an unsupportive family, no hobbies or interests, didn’t talk about openly about your true feelings, had anxiety, parents have low self-esteem, didn’t perform well at school.. there are many reasons that can cause someone to have a low self-confidence. People who make you feel as if you are unworthy or unlovable are not the people you need in your life. Like attracts like. People who do not even like or respect themselves attract the same. People who respect themselves and respect others will attract the same. Don’t let someone get comfortable lying to you and disrespecting you

I am 23 now and would say I am pretty confident in myself. I believe you can be confident without being arrogant. I have dreams, ambitions, a good friend group and get on well with my family. I know I have lots of good qualities and that I am a good, loving person. I am smart, pretty, friendly and happy (most of the time). I find that spending more time at my hobbies and what I enjoy makes me a happier person. Not engaging or showing any interest with people who could not care less about my feelings is a weight off my shoulders. I am spending more time doing soul-nourishing activities such as art, photography, yoga, mindfulness and baking. More soul less ego🕊️ I find that I am singing a lot these days, a good indicator of my happiness and wellbeing. Inner peace is the new success 🕯️ There are many negatives in the world nowadays, such as racism, discrimination, health problems and more. Investing time doing things you love is a good way to build self-esteem, confidence and happiness. Spending time with friends often has a positive impact on one’s emotional health.

I have volunteered a lot throughout University and have found this is a good way to meet like-minded people, build self-assurance and team-building skills. Whether it is an hour a month or more, it makes me feel more productive and more valued. Family relationships can be strengthened by doing weekend activities. Problems with body image and bullying can vary from age to age and can fluctuate throughout one’s lifetime. The only way to deal with bullies is to not give them the reaction they want from you and to report it. Body image confidence can change from one day to the next, but if you focus on your good qualities rather than what you are insecure about you will realise you have a lot more good qualities than bad. Social media plays a big part in todays world regarding how people feel about their bodies. It is important to know that images are photoshopped and not real. Comparison is the thief of joy👀

Another part of learning to love yourself is knowing what people you should be keeping in your life. If someone does not value you or makes you questions your worth, why are they around? If someone is calling you names or picking on you, why would you have to put up with that? There are a gazillion people on this planet and knowing that you deserve to be treated with respect is an important step of learning to love yourself. Don’t let people use you, take advantage of you, label you, or determine your self-worth. You know yourself better than anyone. You know your past experiences, values and what you stand for. Don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. Know your worth👑 and slay👠

Tidy your room🛏️

Every now and then I enjoy a good room clean out. It doesn’t take long before there are all sorts thrown in every corner and my wardrobe is bulging. Having a clean room that is junk free can make a difference to your happiness and wellbeing without you even realising.

Cleaning out your room can be a lengthy process. In this post, I have included some tips on how to declutter. Since you have more time on your hands during the lockdown period, it might be a good time to clear out your room.

1.Study space. Make sure your desk is clear from unnecessary items such as makeup and jewellery. Keep these on a separate stand in another part of the room if you can. Buy a desk-tidy for your stationary items. These do not cost a lot and can be found in poundstores or office supply shops. They will keep all your pens and pencils in one place where they can be easily sourced when needed. Make sure the chair at your desk is sturdy, yet comfortable and buy a cushion for it if you have to. Keep desk drawers tidy and organised. Throw out any papers or rubbish you do not need. A small dustbin under your study desk might be ideal. If you have notes and books from years ago, consider if you want to keep them or if someone else might use them. Some charity shops accept second-hand schoolbooks.

2.Wardrobe. It is recommended to organise your wardrobe every six months. If there are clothes in your wardrobe you have not worn in over a year, it might be a good idea to toss them. Organise clothes into three piles: Keep, Donate to charity, Bin. This method always works for me and helps me to maximise storage space. Try to organise clothes by colour, type of clothing or season. For example, keep all the reds together, blues together, greens together; keep jeans together, tops together, dresses together; keep summer clothes separate from winter clothes. Whatever way works best for you.

3.Furniture arrangement. This may not be possible or recommended, but sometimes swapping where one desk is for another or moving a box of shoes from one side of the room can make a big difference. Visualise how you want your room to look in your head. If I am moving furniture, I draw a plan of what will go where. Ask for help and permission before moving any furniture (you do not want to end up scratching paint off the wall, I learned the hard way). You want to try to maximise floorspace and let as much light to enter the room as possible (unless you’re some kind of hermit or computer nerd). Google Feng Shui for optimal balance and positive vibes.

4.Don’t shy away from the glass cleaner, hoover and sweeping brush. All 3 of these tasks can be completed in less than 15 minutes if you put your mind to it, making a big difference to the overall look of the room. Grab a few rags and get scrubbing! Surfaces you may forget that easily gather dust are the sides of cupboards, the door, skirting boards and window ledges. Be careful you use the correct spray i.e do not use glass cleaner on wooden surfaces.

Open the window(s) while cleaning your room and on a regular basis.

🧹🧽🗑️

I hope you found these tips useful. Comment what your thoughts are and if you have any other tips💭
