Online trolls👾

We hear a lot about online trolls and online negativity from celebrities. I saw a post from Roz Purcell recently on this topic and inspired me to do a blogpost. As more people are using the internet because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to know how to stay safe online. Using the internet comes with many negative aspects and risks; cyberbullying, phishing, scams, stalking, predators, identity theft, chat rooms, spam, viruses..the list goes on.

Why do trolls troll?
  • Attention-seeking
  • Projecting their own issues and insecurities
  • To feel powerful (they are actually powerless behind a screen)
  • Lack empathy and remorse; do not realise or care for the impact it has on the other person
  • May not have any hobbies or close friends
  • May not have a lot going on in their life
  • May have a troubled home environment
  • To intentionally provoke, hurt someone
  • Low self-esteem/Jealous/Insecure/Hateful
  • Believe they are immune to the consequences of their actions
  • Misery loves company
What you can do
  • Don’t give them the attention/validation/reaction they crave
  • Report to family/close friend/the guards
  • Block
  • Internet security

Vibes✨

Vibration: ‘a state of being, the atmosphere, or the energetic quality of a person, place, thought, or thing’

#Vibes

‘Your energy introduces you before you even speak’

Have you ever caught yourself saying ‘I liked the vibe of that café’ ‘That dude has weird vibes‘ ‘ I really like her vibe’ ‘We were vibing’

You can manifest change according to how you direct your thoughts and emotions

The higher your vibration is, the more in touch you are with your higher self

The lower your vibration is, the more out of sync you are with your higher self, and the more conflict you experience in life

Everything in life is vibration’- Albert Einstein

Blue Monday🟦

The third Monday in January is considered ‘the most depressing day of the year’. Why is this you may ask? The holidays are over, the weather is fairly miserable and many Resolutions of the previous year have failed. Below I have created a list of things to do if you are having a rough day. 🍃

  • Call a friend or family member
  • Cook a nice meal or learn a new recipe
  • Journal your feelings
  • Listen to your favourite music
  • Go for a walk
  • Practice a hobby that you enjoy (or learn a new one)
  • Write a list of things and people that make you happy
  • Learn a new skill
  • Take a break from social media
  • Go through who you follow on social media and unfollow anyone that doesn’t make you feel empowered, informed or inspired
  • Spend time in nature
  • Meet friends for a coffee
  • Visit a neighbour – think, are there any old people living nearby who might enjoy a chat and a cup of tea? These people might be living alone and could do with some help or company.
  • Do some gardening
  • Do some yoga or meditation
  • Wear a face mask
  • Have a bubble bath
  • Change your bedsheets and pjs
  • Have some icecream
  • Watch a funny movie
  • Make a nice cup of tea to have with your favourite biscuit
  • Cry!

😢

It is ok and good to cry when you feel sad. Anybody and everybody should cry every now and then (cool people cry too). Crying releases endorphins and oxytocin. Suppressing emotions has detrimental effects in the long-run and can cause depression, anxiety or physical stress on your body. (Sadness and depression are not the same thing- many people use these terms interchangeably).

Chakras🧘🕯️💫

You may have heard of Chakras at a yoga class, meditation class or energy healing session such as Reiki. The word Chakra translates to ‘wheel‘ or ‘disk’ in Sanskrit. There are 7 main Chakras, each corresponding to a specific organ as well as spiritual, psychological, physical and emotional states. Chakras are energy vortexes that are placed in 7 different points on the spinal column. Within each Chakra is a ‘Prana’, or the ultimate healing energy🌙⭐ If a Chakra is open and aligned, it means energy can run freely and harmony exists between the physical body mind and spirit. If a Chakra is closed, it means the Chakra is blocked or misaligned. It is believed that Chakra stones rebalance your Chakras. Reiki can also help you to balance your Chakras.

Dublin-based singer/songwriter/producer is set to release a new single, “Something On My Mind.” The song features layered guitars and contemporary bedroom-pop production. A low-fi beat compliments a catchy hook and creative sonic qualities. The song is the second release off of Dunluvly’s upcoming EP, “Plethora.”

Dunluvly says, “I wrote the track when I was in the decision making process of trying to move out. I was going a bit mad living at home with my family, and feeling mounting frustration at the impossibility of moving out in the county that I grew up in. The song expresses the agitation of wanting to fly the nest but feeling chained. It felt impossible to work to afford a place to live and also have the time to pursue creative endeavours.”

He goes on to say, “The main hook of the track is a looped melody that repeats quite a bit in the song. It mimics being caught in a mental loop and being haunted by the same recurring thoughts.”

The song was written, recorded, and produced by Dunluvly in his home studio, and he also plays all the instruments on the track. He says, “You hear of songs coming to musicians out of the blue. This is the first time I’ve had a song just appear.”

Dunluvly’s sound is rooted in psychedelic indie and traditional Irish music. His finger-style guitar and exploration of unorthodox sounds allow him to create a sonically rich experience, while showcasing strong songwriting throughout his work. His emotive vocals and skilful performance on a multitude of instruments create unique textures in his music.

Dunluvly started playing violin, piano, and guitar at a young age. In his teens, he started using production software and songwriting, and he studied music tech at Maynooth University. He released his Debut EP in 2018, and became active in the pub circuit. In 2019 Dunluvly became a three piece band. They played a headline show, released three singles, and gigged around Dublin until lockdown. He is currently gearing up for the release of his second EP, “Plethora.”

Yoga and meditation🧘

I have recently started doing yoga and meditating more often. I was secretary of the yoga society at University this year, where I met lots of lovely likeminded people and helped organise events such as a morning swimrise, Tea for Thought, Cacao Ceremony and Mandala workshop. We often had food delivered from local vegetarian restaurants too.

Anybody can do yoga. Yoga is very beneficial, particularly if you’re an emotional sponge like me. There are lots of yoga channels with trained instructors on youtube. In todays world, we are swayed by other peoples opinions, beliefs and values. Yoga aligns you with your soul, inner being, true purpose and core values. Yoga connects you with you. Your ‘true self’. It is awakening, replenishing and reviving.

It helps to have a good yoga mat, one of which is on my shopping list. Things that may help you to relax are essential oils, candles and yoga music (lots on spotify) (be careful not to burn the house down). You can do yoga or meditation for as long as you want. It can be ten minutes, half an hour, or longer. You can do yoga or meditate alone, or you can do it with others, although this may be distracting and you may not feel the full benefits. Some people do yoga or meditate every day. If you only have time to do yoga once a week it is still beneficial.
