New four-piece OMONOKO are fast becoming one of Ireland’s most exciting new exports with a rare timeless quality to their music that eschews genre and categorisation.
Their new single ‘Weight In Gold’ incorporates an addictive bass line, simple but effective electronic sounds, hooky guitar lines and falsetto vocals that deliver a chilled, yet uplifting track. Lyrically the song focuses on an individual’s need to have a break from the outside world, to re-establish a connection with themselves, and to focus on what their next move in life will be.
It is an exotic and dreamy exploration inwards, that moves from washed out minimal moments to an infectious chorus refrain that gets further and further embedded under the skin as the track escalates. Living in different parts of Europe but coming back together in Newry, Ireland, the different members of OMONOKO have brought fresh experimentation and a rich melting pot of influences and experiences together with a pure and stunning result.
With streams racking up to over 3,000,000 on music licensing website Jamendo and their track ‘Empty Streets’ catching a sync wave on BBC Sport’s highlights of the six nations Rugby in 2019, plus acclaim from BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson and top Irish tastemaker blogs Nialler 9 and Chord Blossom, OMONOKO are carving out an intriguing and interesting career for themselves. It shouldn’t be long before the band are no longer Ireland’s best kept secret and are on their way to world domination in a similar lane to artists like Alt-J, Maribou State and Milky Chance.

This young and gifted 20-something artist humbly plies his craft with a focused sincerity, and has created a style of his own: consistently delivering on his reputation as a bewitching live performer.
About his new single “Strange.24” Sam says “It’s a song about the acceptance of recovering from a battle with mental illness, The feeling of something changing within my life and trying to accept that it is actually happening. After fighting with mental illnesses for such a long time, the possibility of it leaving was a complete myth to me. Life without deep hopelessness seemed strange to me as I was accustomed to the black hole that was my normality. Just as you would need to get used to living in a new home, I had to get used to living as a person that was no longer mentally ill. This song was a therapeutic way to help me move on with my recovery.”
It is hard to believe it is the last day of May. The first month of summer gone! I have spent most of my days studying for my Masters exams. I have an exam next week and I am not too nervous for it.
I am happy with how my blog and instagram is going. In little over a month I have gained over 150 followers, which I think is amazing. I am learning strategies for how to boost my following and audience and I am having fun learning. My old profile has been deactivated for now. I enjoy having a new audience and posting what I like more consistently. When I am posting what I like and am being more consistent, it is easy to find supporters who enjoy your content, who have similar interests and similar timelines. The Instagram community is massive and it would be a shame to waste good talent🎨🥄📸 I have a book of ideas and notes on what I am learning along the way. I enjoy posting regularly as it allows me to think of any topic I want and write what I want about it for ten minutes or so, it is good for my imagination and creative thinking.☁️ I have never really been a journal girl or diary diva but I am growing to like blogging and being able to express opinions 📝 I look forward to the next few months and sharing more content💗
